(Koepka held on and later said some of the mocking motivated him more than anything else.) As far as an individual event goes, the 2019 PGA Championship turned a little hostile down the stretch on Sunday when Brooks Koepka was … well, not heckled, but catcalled as he nearly derailed and Dustin Johnson made a move to close the gap. Granted, I haven’t been covering the sport very long, but the most unruly behavior I’ve seen was Bryson DeChambeau being called “Brooksie” against his will last summer. The vast majority, though? Golf is golf, and outside of the Ryder Cup, these fans don’t really do disorderly. A fan shouting some smack late in the afternoon after three too many seltzers? Sure. Maybe a stray remark here or there? Maybe. Which got me thinking … what are people imagining will happen? Are there visions out there of indignant golf fans hurling insults? Drunken Bostonians berating Phil like he’s some dip wearing a Yankees hat at Fenway? Middle fingers waving through the summer air?Īin’t gonna happen. This was, far and away, the most asked question in this edition of the mailbag. What do you think the fans reaction towards the LIV players will be this week?
